For an even wider variety of choices, residents enjoy traveling to Frederick Towne Mall located on West Patrick Street. Surrounding the mall are also several strip malls housing several stores including Toys ‘R’ Us, Home Depot, Burlington Coat Factory and Jo-Ann Fabrics, to name a few. Restaurants near West Patrick Street include Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Santa Rose and Fajita Grande. This down-to-earth establishment provides hearty plates from classic Mexican fare. Next-door is Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre & Children’s Theatre. Located off of Willowdale Drive, this year-round live entertainment venue provides traditional dining, popular plays and special shows for the little ones.
Enjoying the Great Outdoors in Walkersville
For more entertainment, stay local and enjoy the Walkersville Southern Railroad. This wonderful tourist attraction offers regular scheduled scenic train rides from the month of May through October. The train was part of the Pennsylvania Railroad that was built in 1872. The renovated train also comprises of a dinner train ride which comes with a fabulous menu and special events like a murder mystery. Near the property is also a small museum where visitors can explore artifacts and learn other information about the original railroad.
Walkersville Heritage Farm Park is a fantastic park located on Devilbiss Bridge Road and across the street from Glade Elementary School. Some of the park’s features include a nine-hole golf course, eighteen-hole disc golf course, plenty of trails, baseball fields, soccer fields, two covered pavilions and picnic tables that are perfect for private parties. Other green spaces include Gilmore C. Trout Memorial Park, Walkersville Community Park and Creamery Park. Within close range of the town are also Glade Valley Golf Course, Woodsboro Park and Walkersville Watershed.
Traveling Around Walkersville
Walkersville is served by TransIT, the Frederick County bus system. Route 194 is the town’s most populated road, and if traveled northbound, it will take you to Woodsboro and eventually Ladiesburg. Traveling southbound on this route will soon merge into Route 26 which is a direct shot to the city of Frederick and nearby Discovery-Spring Garden. The Frederick MARC station is also within the downtown area and is a train station that provides direct access to Washington, DC. The station was built on the old Frederick branch of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and services the Brunswick Line.
